Ann Arbor might be just 30 minutes from Detroit, but a commute to the big city is certainly not necessary! The University of Michigan employs over 35,000 staff members, including 12,000 at its world-class medical center. Technology, health services, biotechnology, and automobile manufacturing also have a strong presence in the area’s economy. Other top employers include General Motors Milford Proving Grounds, Toyota Technical Center, Faurecia North America, and IHA Health Services Corp.
There are tons of ways to get outside in "Tree Town"
Not for nothing is Ann Arbor nicknamed “Tree Town”—the city is filled with and surrounded by fantastic ways to get outside. The Huron River winds through the northern part of the city, offering a diverse array of boating, fishing, paddling, and hiking throughout a variety of parks. U-M also offers two beautiful botanical gardens, and the city itself maintains over 150 local parks. There are also several larger state- and county-maintained recreation areas nearby, including Waterloo and Pinckney.
